Fantaisie

This work highlights the virtuosity of the saxophone through its brilliant writing. The excerpt is situated towards the middle of the score. After a gradual ascension, the two instruments take up a vigorous, dance- inspired theme. Presented in various guises, the theme serves once again as a pretext for a number of ascents which lead the saxophone into its highest range.

Pour un vitrail imaginaire

Inspired by Henri Guérin's stained-glass windows in the chapel of the Institut Catholique in Toulouse, this work traces an open-ended path through the colors of the organ, pulsating with tension and relaxation. Excerpt 1 :

This extract opens with a dance theme. Progressing into the upper register, it leads to a climax. This flash of scintillating color is followed by a highly fragmented musical passage, leading next to a calm episode in which two expressive themes stand out.

Excerpt 2 :

This highly expressive passage is a debate between a harmonic theme and an elegiac theme played with the organ pedal.

Excerpt 3 :

This episode features symphonic music, bright and colorful.

Excerpt 4 :

This is the ecstatic coda of the work. The upper melody travels over a large part of the instrument's range to merge into the final chord, a symbol of plenitude and serenity.

Diane, Séléné

Taken from L'horizon chimérique by Jean de la Ville de Mirmont, the poem "Diane, Séléné" depicts the theme of night through a delicate, subtle song about the moon, its emblematic star.

In this excerpt, the organ and the a cappella women's choir exchange musical phrases.

Excerpt 2 :

This is the final dialogue of the work, with the alto voices evoking the "nocturne flamme" over a soft organ sound carpet. The music gradually fades away on the final chord, a symbol of peace.

Pour une étoile

This work for string quartet invites the listener to follow a path at the end of which lies a light. Divided into three main movements, the vigorously written first and third movements frame an expressive, elegiac moment. These contrasts of character culminate in a coda that draws to a close in the lushness of the lower strings.
